If you wish to create a 3D section view in Revit you could do it by editing the section box within the properties window.

Editing the selection box by dragging the grips can take some time to and you need to do it every single time you wish to create another 3D section box.

As part of the new features in Revit 2016 release Autodesk have introduced Selection Box tool which will automatically create a 3D section box around the elements you selected in the default 3D view.

As part of the new Advanced PowerPack for Revit have enhanced the tool a little further with Auto Section Box tool. This allows the user to select the elements and create a 3D view but you can select another view to use not just the default 3D view. It will apply the settings from that view and the user can even duplicate the view and set the offset around the section box.
